Default Bomar Hatch Hinge Fault

JR North wrote:

So, the Bomar hatch to the mid cabin on Cruis'n Rulz! has been
getting progressively more creaky and sticky through the hinges. I
squirted some penetrating oil on them, and they totally locked up, to
the point where trying to move the hatch just started warping the
frame. After having to use an impact driver to loosen the 5200 bedded
SS machine screws holding the hinges to the frame (bitch...), I
removed the hatch for closer eval. Turns out the hinge pins are
Polyethylene (cutting board material) rods. The penetrating oil
swelled them. I could not press them out,and actually distorted one
of the aluminum hinge housings trying, so ended up drilling them out
with a bit slightly smaller than the hinge bores (bitch...). If your
Bomar hatches are sticky and creaky, look at the hinges. The
polyethylene pins appear as milky white nylon in the pin bores. DO
NOT try to lube them. I think the pins swell anyway over time,
causing the sticking, but there is no way to lube them without
incurring the problem noted above. Note: My Bomar hatches are circa
1990. I plan to make some new pins, not sure what with yet. FYI JR

You might check with these guys for new hinges or parts.

When one of our hinges broke they had it in stock. Jim
