Anybody want to guess what happened next?
Well, the short of it was that the sales dude launched into this whole
thing about ETEC and how they were always blowing up.
At which point I decided that discretion was the better part of valor
and politely told him that (1) now they don't and (2) I've owned three
of them, two on one boat and that boat now has about 1800 hours on the
engines and the current owner loves them and (3) suggested that before
he shot his mouth off about something, it might be smarter to figure
out who the hell he was taking to and (4) I wouldn't buy a boat from
him if my life depended on it which meant that he blew a sweet cash
deal as I wouldn't have haggled about price.
What made things worse was that the other marina/boat shop that had
pontoons similar, the sales girl was dumb as a box of rocks and when
the more experienced sales guy came out to rescue her from my,
um...somewhat detailed questions, I said thanks, but no thanks and out
the door.
So the family is po'd. So Jack Goff suggested a place to look today
and my reputation might be burnished a little if they have what I'm
looking for.
So that's it. Funny comments everyone - you folks are real comedians.
Sounds like you prefer to reward salespeople who take the time to have the
proper amount of product knowledge. If you keep widening the mileage circle
and find you're now looking 400 miles away, call Marshall Seagar or Art
Benham at Seagar Marine, in Canandaigua NY. 585-394-1372 These guys know
their stuff. Sure, you'll have to haul the thing a long way home, but you're
just crazy enough to do something like that.
Before you leave with it, I'll put you on some nice lake trout & walleye.
