The river you are probably refering to is the Housatonic River,
(mostly parallel to Route 7 in the western part of the state) once a
great river. It is like some other pretty dirty rivers listed in the
Ct fishing guide, with parts designated a trophy trout and trout
management areas! I would not fish there either. And just for kicks, I
looked up the Naugatuck River, just east of the Housatonic, (runs
along route 8) it also is listed in the same catergories. That to me
is just frekin' astonishing, anyone who has ever seen the color of the
water around Thomaston and many other parts would never consider even
standing in that water, much less fish. I understand (hearsay) that
there is heavy metals and pcb's in that water, and probably will be
for decades to come even though most of the big polluters are gone. I
have seen the sand flats from the bridge up there, it is full of
pretty colors Stick to the eastern part of the state, there are
still some pretty much undameged waters.

You ever get down to the Milford-Woodmont area on the Sound?
I used to catch tons of porgies bottom fishing those waters, and also
had a few places to troll for stripers. We used large, segmented
sandworms for bait.
