Default Chrysler 55 HP Magnapower Pinging and Bogging Down

Hmm..

Well I was able to try the timing and no matter which way I go it
still pings. I just can't seem to change that. Any other ideas?

That might be the piston overheating and seizing in the cylinder. That's
what happens when you continue to run for extended periods with it pinging.
I don't know how you adjust the timing but reducing the amount of advance
usually fixes pinging so that would be the next thing to try. That's if it
is not damaged beyond repair.

Hello all.

I have a 1974 ChrylserMagnaPower55 HP 2 stroke that has been running
"ok" for a couple of seasons. Last season I had the carbs cleaned and
adjusted and it ran better than ever.

However - ever since I owned the boat, it has pinged at cruising
speed. I tried higher grade gas, but no help there. Also, every now
and then the motor will just bog down - the boat just begins to slow
down, and if you peg the throttle, it eventually dies - it acts just
like it's not gettting enough fuel.

Today things got worse, it would not start once we shut if off on the
other side of the lake. It would crank a few times then sort of stop,
then crank a few more times, then stop, like the timing was way off.

We had to troll back

Could this all just be timing? If so, how do I set the timing on this
motor - or how do I check it?

Thanks for any advice.
