Stainless Steel prop repair..
Very interesting process.
Got to watch one of Bay View's owners work on a SS prop yesterday
morning - I asked if I could watch the process and he had no problem
with it.
It was pretty neat. First the edges were smoothed, then using ss wire
a bead was welded down the length of the leading edges of the prop,
that was smoothed and shaped, then the blades are adjusted for rake,
the prop goes through a series of grinding sand and belts (220/400 I
think he said), then the prop is checked again for balance and proper
cup and it goes through a series of polishing steps.
Very cool to watch. Took about an hour from a prop that was really
dinged to looking like new.
Impressive.
