I can see you have never had this happen to you.
I was at a chrysler dealership years ago where the Sales Manager kept my
keys (which i dumbly gave up for the old "let us drive test your potential
tradein to determine its value") on his credenza behind his desk.
When the Sales Associate couldn't produce the keys when I told him I wasn't
purchasing any car from them, I demanded to know where the keys were.
Eventually he told me the Sales Manager had them.
I immediately went to the Sales Managers office to get my keys when he
expressed "tell us what it will take to get you to drive out of here tonight
with a new car". I told him "give my my keys now or I am coming over your
desk". He replied with "sir, I can see you are not serious about purchasing
a new car tonight, what can we do to change your mind". I made a move
towards his desk, and he immediately turned around and gave me my keys back.
BELIEVE ME.....THIS CAN REALLY HAPPEN. In the mean time, they had some
poor woman in the next office in tears using the same tactic. Sad...really
sad.
Being childish has nothing to do with these sales a**holes. They only
understand aggression. If you are passive, they will eat you alive.
You and the guy who turned the table over (if he really did) act like
out of control monkeys.
Well Wally, bast on your VAST business experience, what do
you suggest. I see the following options
1) buy the car as the salesman demands
2) call the cops, and wait 3-4 hours until they get around
to showing, at which point the salesman will explain that it
was all a misunderstanding, and YOU were mistaken in
bothering the cops.
3) take a cab home and forfeit your car to storage fees
4) drive their demo home and get arrested for theft.
What is your suggestion given the situation as described --
where a "salesman, sales manager" refuses to return the keys
to your car? You know the "professional approach" Remember
that you're dealing with scum who are out to take your money
and have already demonstrated their (lack of) class.
