If it was with PayPal, chances are that you are worse off than if you
paid cash.

What nonsense. I've had two (out of over a thousand) purchases run
through
paypal that I disputed. Once was the result of destruction in shipment
(and
others likewise had trouble) and the other was non-delivery of goods.
Both
times they refunded the amounts to me within a week. Oddly enough even
after refunding to me the seller eventually DID get around to sending the
items 3 weeks later. Go figure.

Bearing in mind you can also indicate you want to pay the amount using a
credit card (not a direct transfer) and still retain that channel to seek
refunds.

I would agree. I pay for all ebay purchases with Paypal, using my credit
card as the funding source. If other on line purchases can be made using
Paypal, that would be my choice of payment. If things go sour one can
always file a case with Paypal and with the credit card company. Paying
with cash leaves you high and dry if there is a problem with the purchase.
I have not been screwed yet and I have several hundred ebay transactions.

If one has the discipline to pay off their entire credit card balance
monthly (as I have always done and as my kids have been taught to do) then
paying with a credit card is the smartest way to go. It can sometimes
result in no payment due for close to 60 days......free money during those 2
months. We also collect credits for BP gasoline cards with our BP Visa,
making it an even better choice.

We are in the final stages of major home improvement projects (started in
March), with the final project (master bath) now about 1/3 completed.
Although we have the cash, we paid a good % of the projects and associated
merchandise with credit card, earning us over $300 so far in BP gas cards.
How can you beat that?
