I have a Motorola, V235, cell phone on my boat connected to an
amplifier and external antenna. It works but the adapter plug that
connects to the phone is annoying. Any jarring or slight twisting and
the connector pops out. I am in a remote area so it is hard to check
out phones. There are plenty of sites on the net that sell phone
adapters for various phones. My provider, Cellular One GSM, sells a
limited selection of phones and are not much help. Does anyone have
experience with other phones and reliable external antenna plugs?

I recently upgraded my trusty ol' V60i to the Motorola E815, specifically
because it had an 800 Mhz pullup antenna AND an external antenna
connector below a rubber plug on the back of it. Alltel sold me the
Motorola OEM antenna cable that is a tight-fitting right-angle connector
so the wire doesn't stick out the back and goes nicely under my hand so I
can tell when I'm tugging on it turning the wrong way. It doesn't screw
in, it's a pressure fit, but it's quite secure.

The fitting on the end of it is wrong for my Cellantenna.com DA4000 3W/2W
Cell/PCS linear amp, which comes with miniUHF females in and out, so I
had to put adapters on the amp to fit the phone's TNC screwon. Radio
Shack USED to sell them....but they are a cellular dealer, now, sworn, it
seems, to deny customers any fittings that make connecting an external
amp/antenna combo as tough as possible.

When a local Ratshack distribution warehouse sold out, I bought them out
of 6db 800 Mhz magmount car antennas and have sold off all but my own
stash of lifetime replacements, so don't have any more to sell off.

What amp are you using? I highly recommend the E815. It's big enough
for REAL MEN to hang onto and open without it squirting out of your hands
and has a great antenna and antenna connector to replace your old phone.
