I have some recollection that the company that had a licence to build
Cal-20s (and perhaps other Cals) in BC decided to build similar boats
on their own as well (there's also a Crown 18, if I recall correctly).

Calgan Marine, at the foot of Crown st in North Vn built the Crown 22,
28 and 34's Al nairne had license to build the Cal's, then he produced
the Crown line. Very well built boats, fast, even today (search for
Swiftsure winners, the Crown 34 has won, I believe) and are tough.
Even today, they hold their value. I think the San Juan 34 is based on
the Crown 34 mold, but not any other San Juan.
