rear tires are in only 3 inches of water. Front wheel drive on dry
ground (4X4) would have been a help. An extendable trailer tongue
would have been a bigger help.

Does anybody here know whether that was fresh water or salt? Looked
like a fresh water lake but I couldn't tell for sure.

That happened to me on flat ground (actually ice over 3 inches of very
slippery mud). Put the Tacoma in low range - that began to help. Pushed the
differential lock button - problem fixed. Never got as far as 4WD, but that
was next. The tires they sell with those trucks are pathetic.
