BTW, had a wonderful visit at Dover Castle
yesterday and the weather cooperated by providing
blue skies and sun. The view of Dover harbor, the
white chalk cliffs and the breakwater was
fantastic. There is a marina there that seemed to
have a lot of cruising boats. I'd like to see the
castle from the sea someday.

There ya go! Sea and boats. I would like to do one of those canal boat
cruises one day, the narrow boats. I well recall a winter's day when I was
travelling across England through the Midlands and off in the distance was a
canal; with dozens of narrow boats, most of them wisping smoke from their
chimneys. So very homey and one reason we have a solid-fuel heater on our
boat. My daughter and her family lived many years on a canal barge in
Holland but now they just live in a house in Ipswich. Not nearly as much
fun, nor as roomy. Granddad and grandmother have to stay in a B&B or hotel.
We were in Ipswich on Monday to take pictures of
the duplex my wife's family lived in when she was
little. She was born in the hospital at what was
then the 75th Tactical at RAF Ben****ers just down
the road. We had a nice visit in Ipswich also.
There is a wide river which cuts from the English
channel all the way into town, with many marinas
and sailboats along it.
The tide along the English channel must be
dramatic, as at low tide there are many boats at
their moorings sitting in the mud. The river
Thames is actually a tidal flow which reverses
course depending on whether the tide is coming in
or going out.
