Gene, the link reads like a liberal reporter authored it. Did you look into
this further to find the actual facts on the lack of funding?
I didn't need to. I have personally seen commercial shipping run
aground in the center of the AICW... since no dredging or buoy work
has been funded.
If you check the funding of marine interests in TX (for example) vs.
those on the East Coast you find a HUGE discrepancy. If you remember,
I stood steadfast against Harry and others that supported the
Democrats.... I voted Republican..... but I, now, find myself and
fellow Tar Heels (and other AICW users) SCREWED..... Obviously, from
the available information, marine interests are important... depending
upon where they are (though, logically, not).
ALL of our overseas deployments into the Persian Gulf and surrounding
regions are supported from SPMOT, however that is where two of the
most important stations are being slashed.
The author is most likely at his wits end, since NC has steadfastly
voted Republican and been rewarded for same by receiving a combination
snub and hose job......
The Bush administration has repeatedly ignored commercial interests in
the AICW and cut funding for the Corps of Engineers to the point that
I am surprised that they have food to eat! Certainly, commercial
traffic has been affected to the point that they can only be assured
of safe passage at the highest tides....
I believe the latest Wall Street Journal poll indicates that only 22% of
Americans believe the Bush Admin is leading this country in the right
direction.
What else would you expect from a president detached from reality and a
vice president who is absolutely delusional?
