Default Boat-yard .. friendly or Unfriendly ??

Let me tell you about our yard. The staff is friendly and coopertive, the fees
are not rapacious, the work gets well done on time with a smile -- well, most
of the time. Even strong men sometimes weep when confronted with a problem in
an inaccessible part of a sailboat. And this is government work. The marina
and yard are owned and operated by the City of New York.

But not only is the staff helpful and cooperative, so are the other denizens,
a bunch of whom banded together last August to remove a dead transmission and
install a new one with our boat (O'Day 37) in the water. The yard people were
not available at the time. It could not have been done without one guy and his
Scuba gear who spent his time under the boat removing and replacing zincs and
preventing the shaft from falling out. They all refused any payment, but it
did cost us a bundle in smoked salmon (half the guys were Irish) and vintage
tequila (for the Honduran boss of the job). Just priceless. No way I can ever
repay them.

Wow... In New York City. Who would have thought
it? Just goes to show that you can't really know
a place by just visiting.
