What's really ridiculous about your claim is that when I type "good
speaker" and "thomas jefferson" into google, the first two results I get
have the words "not a" before "good speaker". Show me an instance where
somebody described Jefferson as a good speaker.

I'm wondering if our modern definition of a "good speaker" is the same as
Jefferson's contemporaries. In the time before mass media, oratory was
the way a politician addressed the public. Speeches sometimes lasted
hours and could incite riots. Perhaps Jefferson was less effective in
this aspect.

Less effective than Bush in inciting riots? Perhaps. ;-)

Bush's lack of ability in public speaking doesn't necessarily reflect on
his intelligence, nor do his frequent "misspeaks", factual errors,
grammatical errors, and miss-pronunciations. They do, however, exhibit an
intellectual laziness and lack of preparation unworthy of the President of
the United States.

I've listed several successful and effective presidents or prominant figures
in government who were known as poor speakers. I don't think it's quite the
handicap you make it out to be.
