After informing the inspector that the two stroke DI wasn't actually a
four stroke engine, he looks a little upset and says "Why didn't you
say something".

"I did", I said. "I told you there weren't any carburetors".

Now he's looking grim and starts completing his "inspection".

He wrote me up for "improper emergency signaling device" and not
having my registration renewal sticker the regulation two inches from
the last letter or number on the bow.

The "improper emergency signaling device" is an Ecohorn

USCG approved and a hell of a lot more in it than a propellant horn
will ever give you.

I also had an issue with the sticker measurement as, to my tape
measure, it's exactly 2" from the last letter/number - to the tape
measure on the edge of his clip board, it's 1 3/4".

I will be calling DEP tomorrow and may even make a visit to East Lyme
DEP HQ.

~~ stay tuned for Part Tres ~~

This incident reminded me of a post (below) I wrote years ago to the
driving group in reaction to complaints among the speeders that
tickets were simply about money (revenue collection.)
It may or may not apply here, and may or may not be useful to others.
Aside from that, discounting the premise being made is a strong
indicator that one is a prick.
************************************************** *******************************
Getting a ticket works pretty much like genes. The two contributors
to the 'ticket' are the driver and the cop. If either is a prick, a
ticket will result, as 'prick' is dominant. Just as about half of
all cops are pricks, so are half of all drivers. As a general rule
then (discounting mutations), about 3 of 4 traffic stops results in a
ticket.
-If you are a prick, you will get a ticket every time.
-If the cop is a prick, you will get a ticket every time.
-If you are a prick, and the cop is a prick, you will get a ticket
every
time - and may be arrested too.
-If neither you or the cop is a prick, no ticket will result.
Since pricks never know they are pricks, they can't identify other
pricks.
If a prick issues or gets a ticket, he will always assume the other
party is a prick.
Non-pricks can identify an opposing prick, or recognize when they
themselves have been acting like a prick.
So tickets really have nothing at all to do with money, but are simply
the reflection of prick/non-prick convergence.
