Boy that Dr. is good! He did the root canal, saved my existing crown
and sealed it all up in about an hour and a half. The cause of the
need for a root canal was an old filling (around thirty years) beneath
the crown that had decayed below the filling so bacteria got into the
pulp chamber and hence the root canals.

He used microscopic surgery techniques and progressive x-rays to make
sure he had managed to clean out the roots all the way to the very
tip. He used some sort of composite ceramic filler instead of the old
standby gutta percha. He etched the insides of the root canals with
acid so the ceramic would bond completely and also to kill any
lingering bacteria. The operation was just about painless until it came
time to pay for it. (Just kidding I can afford the best care for my
teeth. I'm worth it, after all.)

Total cost $1,985. Yikes. That would almost buy a new stainless steel
anchor for my Swan 68.

Caution: not for the faint of heart or sissies like JimC who thinks he's
the only lawyer on asa and Dave who is the other lawyer . . .

Here's what they did:

I bet there ain't too many people here man enough to get it done without
anesthetic like I did. It was painful at first, especially when they
first shoved those little round files down the root canal to pulverize
and rip out the still living nerve and surrounding decaying pulp.
