Default is this a thermostat problem

Have you EVER changed the thermostats??? If not it might be waayy

The engine does should be around the 130 degree range. Maybe a bit
higher or lower depending on the make and existing water temp.

Another thing to look at is the waterpump impeller. That should be
changed every two seasons or so depending on how much you use
your boat.

hi all,

I purchased my first boat with a '84 90 hp evinrude(V4) sometime
ago. I found it seems to run hot. When I run it in neutral with the
earmuff for a few minutes, I couldn't place my finger on the cylinder
flat area for any longer than 1 or 2 sec. there's constant stream
from the pee hole but there's also cool water coming out of the small
housing betwn the lower unit and the leg, there's no water coming out
of the exhaust holes(should there be?) Does this mean the thermostat
is stuck closed?

I'll take cylinder temp. once I buy the infare gun (saw the ad. for a
pocket size one for $10 at harbor freights, are these any good? )

Did a compression test, the readings were 125, 120 on bank 1 and 110,
110 on bank 2. any thoughts on this?

thanks

the service manual shows the stat is housed inside the exhaust but the
space betwn the engine housing and the exhaust is way too small to get
any kind of wrench in there? what's the trick here? The bolts are
rusted (and frozen, I bet.)
Are stats always a pain to get at?
