Kayak or Canoe plans
wrote:
Hi I am looking for plans on how to build a Kayak that is quite simple
or Canoe.
For around the age of 15-18yrs old.
I suggest that you go to kayakforum.com and post your question there.
The intended use of the kayak makes BIG difference when it comes to
choosing a design and construction method, so be sure to specify as much
detail about your intentions as possible.
There are many types of kayaks that can be built at home. Most will
require you to spend at least $20 on a book that contains offsets (for
stitch & glue or cedar-strip boats) or a design method (skin-on-frame
boats) and the construction techniques to build them. Full-size plans
with manuals for S&G or strip boats are typically in the $75+ range.
S-O-F boats are sized to the paddler and don't use plans, per se.
There are a handful of free plans on the web, but they're generally for
short, wide, deep boats that are useful only for dubbing around in
small, quiet waters. Functionally, they're the equivalent of a $300
plastic recreational kayak.
