Physical conditioning for sailing

The comments in the other threads about the physical demands of
sailing are apt. Other than Larry (who apparently keeps his 250 lb
frame trim by hauling beer and chasing his bikini-clad crew), what do
the rest of you do to prepare yourself physically for sailing?

Yeah, that's fine if you can sail daily. The rest of us have to walk
treadmills, row machines, or whatever else it takes to build endurance and
upper-body strength. For me, it mostly consists of thinking about doing some
of those things.
