Lesson here should be, always make sure the sale is reported to the state.

Luckily, I do have bill of sale for the boat and a copy of the
Vehicle/Vessel Transfer and Reassignment Form I sent to the California
Department of Motor Vehicles.

I am going to make a call to the yard tomorrow to find out how the boat
ended up there then walk away from it.
