127.0.0.1 is 'localhost', how any computer sees itself.
I could run without an NNTP posting host header at all
(as in this poast), but I prefer to show localhost to
confuse those who are not computer literate. My Gravity
newsreader (in conjunction with Altopia's policies) allows
me to customize headers to fit my needs. Even my Path.
As in this poast. *g*
Kewl. I can't do any of that with Outlook Express. I think I can do it with XNews.
Well, OE is a mail client, not a real newsreader, so it has
limits. XNews is very flexible, in some ways even better than
Gravity, but I find the user interface awkward. I do have a
copy loaded for use with my second news feed, for when I really
want to cause a stir.
This is good:
"Path:authen.yellow.readfreenews.net!green.octanew s.net!news-out.octanews.net
!mauve.octanews.net!nx01.iad01.newshosting.com!new shosting.com!news.alt.net!
Capt.JG.the netkkkop.runs.from.the.NOTB!not-for-mail"
I thought you might get a kick out of that. *g* Altopia allows
'pre-loading' the path via your newsreader as long as the
addition is obviously NOT a valid news server.
Nice that you can fake the path...
Can you tell anything from my path? Path:
authen.yellow.readfreenews.net!green.octanews.net! news-out.octanews.net!indigo.octanews.net!authen.yellow .readfreenews.net.POSTED!not-for-mail
I'm familiar with octanews / readfreenews.
Ever hang out in alt.free.newsservers?
Not a bad place to at least monitor.
And this is good:

Attaboy!
These days I've gone far enough to the right to consider
dubya to be a liberal wimp. The last true conservative
on the American political scene was Saint Goldwater.
