So is there any way to send an SMS message via EMAIL?
On the handset you enter the email address that you want the message
to go to as the first thing in the body of the message followed by a
space. After the space you can type your message. When you have
finished entering the message and you go to send the message, enter
+*2 when the phone asks for the destination.
you can also send an email to the the phone via SMS by sending the
email to
Thanks but that is not exactly what I needed to know. The original
poster described a position reporting system whereby you sent your
lat/lon via SMS. I don't have anyway of sending SMS messages from
offshore but I can send EMAIL via HF radio. So the question I'm
trying to answer is whether or not an SMS message can be originated
via EMAIL instead of a phone.
Maybe, depending on the recipient's service provider or your desire to
pay for a commercial service.

The issue would be, does the recipient's application track users by
mobile number? If so, I dont think it will do you any good to use a gateway.
