So? The "displacement" of a boat is the mass of the water it displaces at
rest. A "displacement boat" or hull is one that displaces approximately
the same amount of water regardless of its speed. A "planing hull" is one
that when moving lifts out of the water and thus displaces less water than
its mass would imply.
