I had a friend in Kansas City in the 1960s who had a full-dress Cobra. He
let me drive it a couple of times during practice sessions on airport SCCA
circuits in Oklahoma and Arkansas. It was a real sports car, uncluttered
by the overdone-ness of today's corvettes and mustangs. It was also a
bitch to get around short, tight courses.
There are a lot of kits and replicas floating around now-a-days. The real
Cobras are rare.
If I were inclined ... which I am not .... I think I'd prefer a newer Ford
GT. They stopped making them last year, I think, but can be found for
$150-$200K. The guy that bought one of our Florida houses bought one and
it is quite the machine.
The 427ci side oilers in the Cobras are monsters but they are not very good
as street engines.
