Just out of curiosity, what make/model of tuner do you have? I'm about
ready to go that route, just to get one more thing out of the house.

DT

Hauppauge HVR-950.

One guy has it for $75 from Nextag:

It's just a "stick" but don't plug it directly into your USB plug. Use
the included 6" USB extension cable to take the torque off your
motherboard connector. It gets HOT processing DTV. Don't plan on using
the computer for anything else while watching DTV, either. The laptop
fan will run continuously and the laptop CPU gets HOT processing this
much data....

Computer here is a Gateway AMD 2.6 Ghz Turion 64, XP Pro, 1G RAM, 100G
HD, lots of computer power but too busy to do anything else while DTV is
on it. Same for my Athalon 64 desktop. DTV takes lots CPU time.

Standard F connector for antenna. Comes with little magnet mount whip
for portable use. (Sticks to napkin holder at Awful House.) Will NOT
PLAY IN A MOVING VEHICLE...even right under the tower. Any moving
reflection tears up DTV something awful. All our new DTV stations are on
UHF. On the 15.4" Gateway laptop, the picture is superb. You can see
the whiskers on a football player's ugly face. If the signal sucks, it
simply locks until the signal becomes passable. The interface's channel
display has a signal to noise graphic display to help you find the best
signal. Changing channels on DTV is slow because of the sync times of
stupid American DTV. Euro DTV is a much better system. We just can't
seem to do TV right in the States for some reason.

I'm quite happy with the way it works, but it's an awful battery hog on a
laptop. Runs about 40 mins with all that load on the processor and the
power the USB dongle uses from the USB port that makes it so hot. Best
plugged into car or AC outlet.....

I haven't tried the other DTV boxes. Best Buy sells another brand but
refused to hook it up to see if it worked. The salesmen at Circuit City
had no idea it was a Digital TV. CC had it on sale for $79 with a $20
rebate when I bought it. That was months ago and the rebate, of course,
never was delivered, to date.
