Default Now a Nanny State

Yes, the nanny state is back. Here's to hoping that it takes less than
two years for Americans to remember why they rebelled against it in the
first place.

Pelosi snuffs out a House smokers haven
Following D.C.'s ban, she forbids lighting up in the speaker's lobby.

WASHINGTON - Throughout the U.S. Capitol are reminders of the days
when tobacco was king.

Tobacco-leaf designs decorate walls. Brass spittoons adorn the Senate
chamber. A portrait of a former House speaker shows him clutching a
cigar.

And until Wednesday, ashtrays could be found indoors just steps away
from the House chamber.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) on Wednesday snuffed out
smoking in the speaker's lobby, previously one of Washington's most
famous smoke-filled rooms. It is an ornate place where lawmakers for
decades have puffed away between votes.

No more, Pelosi declared.

"I am a firm believer that Congress should lead by example," she said,
citing the dangers of secondhand smoke.

Hours after the decree, the ashtrays were gone and nary a whiff of
smoke sullied the air.

Smokers, already restricted from lighting up in many places, seemed
resigned.

"That's fine," said House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), a
smoker who along with others will now be forced to light up on an
outdoor balcony off the speaker's lobby.

"I'll survive," added Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-Mich.), another smoker.

Yeah, let's hope they remember the 8 years of prosperity brought to you by
Williwm Jefferson Clinton and the 3000+ dead US soldiers, 25+K injured US
soldiers, the 100s of 1000s dead and injured innocent Iraqis, the billions
of $$ wasted on the war brought to you by GWB and the Republican Congress,
not to mention the damage to our economy and world standing, the latter of
which is required to be successful in the War on Terror.

Let's remember the terrorist's that were emboldened by Slick Willie's
lack of responce to many terrorist attacks. Let's not forget that we
have not been hit since 911, and many other countries have. You may see
that as " billions wasted " but I feel it is an investment in freedoms
future. Consider the cost of 9-11.

The world war on terror must be won, no matter the cost. Only a fool
would retreat and expect the terrorist's blood lust to subside. It's
either freedom and basic rights for all, or it's terror and murder
rules. Good vs Evil.
