Makes me also wonder, what did we do before we had EPIRBS? I guess earlier
sailors were better prepared to take care of themselves.

Sherwin,

Earlier sailors probably _were_ better prepared to
take care of themselves, because there were no
radios, and no CG helicopters, CG fast cutters,
etc, and they knew it when they left port.

However, many of them also disappeared without a
trace, and it is still a mystery what happened to
them. This still happens today even with all of
our safety gear.
