Not necessarily; they may have a secure network that requires a password.


Possible but I doubt it. It sounds like the ship is acting as its own
cell tower and relaying via satellite. You can be sure they are
charging a good $$$ for the service and know exactly who is using it
by way of your phone's ESN.

Where it might be applicable to *our* kind of cruising, is if you just
happened to be close enough to a ship somewhere that you could ride
their relay. It wouldn't be free but might be convenient.


Probably very high roaming charges... also, you'll need a fast boat to
keep up. :-)
