wheels;galvanized?
For those of you who answered, here's my follow up post.
I had a new tire mounted on my old galvanized wheel. I originally considered
keeping the existing tire and wheel as a spare - that's why I was
considering a tire and wheel purchase.
My trailer is six years old. I bought a spare tire and wheel two years ago.
Last month, I installed that spare and kept the original tire and wheel as a
spare. Neither of the original tires has failed, but I guess I got my
money's worth.
All of the launch ramps I've used in San Diego (where I boat) require I back
in until the tires are submerged for launch and recovery. I power on and use
the winch to pull me the last foot or so. That's just the way it is: there's
nothing wrong with my boat/trailer (purchased as one from the manufacturer)
or my launch/recover skills.
I use Bearing Buddys.
I hose off the galvanized trailer when I'm done. I doubt how much good that
does, since the trailer's in the water then sits in the parking lot for 8-10
hours while I'm boating before it's in the water again for recovery, and
then gets hosed off.

I need another tire for my trailer. (ST205/75D14)
Are you buying just the tire, or a wheel and tire?
I mostly boat in salt water and have to submerge the wheels where I
launch.
Can you launch and retrieve other places without getting the trailer
wheels
wet?
WestMarine only has tires on chrome wheels in stock.
Will the chrome wheels last as long as galvanized in salt water boating?
My experience with chrome trailer wheels has been very bad. The wheel is
made and then the chrome is put on. There are seams that the chrome
plating
doesn't get into, and it will rust from these seems even in fresh water.
My
last trailer had chrome wheels and they started rusting and looking bad
after only one year of use, and that was only in fresh water.
My current trailer has aluminum wheels. Much better. They look great and
will never rust.
