I'm with you there Oz, it's a sickening feeling watching your boat grind

True enough, anyone can make mistakes. OTOH there are
mistakes anybody could make, then there are mistakes one
makes only if careless or stupid.

Taking kids out in bad weather (predicted to get worse, and
cold to boot) is something that only skilled sailors should
do... except they probably wouldn't. Hitting rocks at night,
even if lit, is an easier mistake to make. I got the
impression the people waited helplessly for rescue, also not
something a skilled sailor would be likely to do.

True enough, it'd be nice to get the whole story, like why they were out
there. There might be some good reason for it, although I can't think of
one right now. I'm not familiar with the area, maybe they thought that
since they were inland the weather wasn't going to be so bad? (But why
in hell would anyone want to go night sailing on a cold November night
in an area you weren't familiar with?)

Cheers
Marty
