Well, I finally did it. I bought an LCD monitor and will be moving my
glass tube monitor over to the production table. Hope I am not
disappointed by this new-fangled technology. It's in the hands of
Fedex now...
I don't use a computer for work anymore, so I don't need anything
really fancy. I bought this HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop about a year and
a half ago and like the screen very much. It's a 17" "Widescreen" LCD
display and I've found that some of the high resolution pictures taken
with the camera look really nice on it. Much, much better than the
monitors I've had in the past, both CRT and early LCD. It has a
"glossy" look to it rather than a flat, matte look.
I'll betcha you like the LCD.

I'm not careful enough to rely on a laptop as my main machine, as I am
always spilling crapola on the keyboard. With a laptop, that's a real
concern. With a desktop, you either can clean up the keyboard or toss
it. I'm using a Microsoft wireless keyboard now, and have been for about
five months. That's pretty good for me.
I still have my aging IBM T23 laptop for road trips, but every time my
wife drags me to the mall, I go to the Apple Store and admire the new
Apple laptops. If I buy another laptop, I'll buy an Apple.
I've been using a Mitsubishi glass monitor for some years now, a
19-incher. It's fine, with a bright picture tube, but I wanted something
with a larger screen. LCD really was the only way to go. I got a 21"
coming in, but not one of the new "wide screen" jobbies, just the
regular 4:3 aspect ratio. The screen does tilt to the vertical, though,
and that might be a neat feature with some of the stuff I have to write.
We'll see. Gosh, I'll have more open real estate on my desk. More room
to pile up crud.
We purchased a wide screen LCD monitor when we bought our son a desktop
computer for his HS graduation gift. Great for watching wide screen
movies on.
What brand and model did you buy?
Samsung Synchmaster 214T. A good American brand. :}

Looks like a nice choice. Let us know how you like it.
That's the one. Supposed to be here Monday.
Korea, when I was there, was called 'the land of the almost perfect'. I
hope it works well. Let us know.
