As I said at the time, you can get elected with crap policies and
charismatic leadership, or sound policies and mediocre leadership, but
when you combine pathetic policies and the likes of Latham, Macklin,
Crean and Beazely - it's the Opposition benches for you.
The way things are going, Howard is gonna get re-elected, too. Nobody
really cares about Iraq or the other things so beloved by the inner
city intelligentsia.

Yep, you hit it square on the head.
Doesn'tchange the fact that Howard is dismantling piece by piece all
the advances made by the Whitlam govt
Which ones would those be? That was over 30 years ago and memory fades.
Here's one for you - free university education. The *******s are making
people pay for it nowadays. That'd be the Labor Party *******s who
brought in HECS, right, Oz? Not the current Govt.
The other big advance IMO was health cover, and it's still there, more
or less intact.
What else?
while leading us into 'free
trade' agreements and playing upon playing fields laid out with a
damaged level as workers rights are erroded in an effort to kick the
ball up the slope.
Well, the rhetoric plays nicely. Pity there's little substance.
Employment is *up* from the last Labor Govt both in relative terms &
absolute terms. Interest rates are down. People I know are working, a
couple have been offered wonderful employment agreements by arsehole
employers and promptly told them to shove it. Went elsewhere. Said
arsehole employers are having difficulty finding replacements and in
one case, the person who left is headhunting the good staff from her
new job. All part of the game.
All of which isn't saying I think much of the 'work choices' crap
because I don't. However the sky isn't falling. If you're seeing probs
I'd look closer to home - the arrogance & incompetence of the NSW Labor
Party for example.
