We started w-a-a-a-a-a-y-y-y-y late and our one and only is a son aged
almost 22. He's a great boater and quite a competent captain. I
trusted him to act in a mature manner and put him at the helm when he
was about 4 years old. He has acted as was expected of him

Sounds like a great little goose stepper. I let my kids be kids.

Strange! You never wanted to drive the boat when you were a kid?

I don't think any parent has ever had that conversation to force their
kid to drive a boat, car, tractor, etc..... My parents certainly
didn't have to force me.... and my son was the same way... and so were
all of his friends.

Boy, if you think driving a boat elicits goose stepping, the rest of
the things he expresses interest in would probably mortify you.

Goose stepping? Goose stepping?? Nazi boat driver! Bizarre visual, let
me think about that...... nah, never mind.....

We just see things differently, I suppose. I let my kids be kids, as
opposed to them having to act like adults constantly. That's not what's
"expected" of them.
