Hi

I live quite some distance from a capital city ie about 180kms from the
closest navigation course

Does anyone know of any on-line or self-study basic nav courses I could opt
for ?

thanks

Take a look at the book "Dutton's Navigation and Pilioting". It's a
decent overview of the art, deeper than most people will ever want to
go. There is a companion book with problems and answers for each
chapter. The main book also works well as a reference.

To reply, lose the capitals and do the obvious.

Take a look at cpRepeater, my NMEA data integrator, repeater, and
