Can't help you on the pencil locations, but just want to say gluing them in
place won't work because what makes it work is an ELECTRICAL connection
between the zinc and the engine block and that won't make contact through
epoxy or any other glue. Zinc and the metal they protect are simply
shorted batteries in a salt water electrolyte, slowly eating the zinc away
as the electrolyte (seawater) floats by. The plates have to be shorted
together (zinc to engine).


Thanks Larry, thats something I hadn't thought of, perhaps I need to
take the cover plate off and get the plug hole re tapped to accept
standard pencils.
