Not a mistake, it is called that. But most recreational
sailors will think of a boat tied to a heavy permanent
anchor with a chain leading up to a bouy when you say "mooring."
BTW in totally correct nautical terminology, you are at the
dock, tied to the pier. The "dock" refers to the area the
boat is in, not the structure. But who goes in for the
arcana of perfectly applied terminology these days?
