Default Stupidity is Contagious

The proposed zones
would be permanent, and at this time are proposed for use "a few times in
a calendar year. with each exercise lasting approximately 4-6 hours". The
Coast Guard plans to alert the public in advance of all live gunfire
exercises through broadcasts on a marine band radio channel which is used
for distress, weather updates and marine information; they will also
employ an observer to monitor the safety zone throughout the exercise.

So they're going to give us a clear definition of the areas involved and
use
their existing practices of notifying mariners well in advance. Sounds
like
a good plan. The charting companies will be able to update their
materials
so anyone planning a route can double-check for any planned actions.

If all you want to do is whinge about gov't activities you can probably a)
find better newsgroups for it and b) find something a lot more "stupid"
than
this otherwise reasonable sounding plan.

Unfortunately, the area designated near Rochester is A-1 trout fishing
territory. This plan will run into trouble. As I said before, if you have no
idea what you're talking about, be very quiet.
