I've just read an article (reprinted below) about Racor 2010 filters.
Has anyone else run into the problem?

If you have a Racor fuel filter that uses the 2010 filter cartridge,
your engine may be in grave danger!
The older brown two micron filters have been discontinued and replaced
by another, modified version also numbered 2010. Unfortunately new
version when installed sits lower in the housing and (in mine at least)
leaves the hole in the central tube partially uncovered.
The result is obvious; this allows the fuel to bypass the cartridge and
fed directly to the engine UNFILTERED!
I have gotten around the problem by installing a spacer on the central
tube that does not allow the cartridge to go down too far. I used a
piece of thin-wall PVC pipe, cut to a length of .95 inches.
I have an older Racor 500FG. It too needs a spacer. Racor will send
you them for free. Just give them a call. The new filter sits at the
top and covers the hole, but if it were pushed down just a bit, then
the hole is exposed. Apparently, the previous owner never put on the
spacer (probably didn't know about it), but either the filter didn't
drop, or the fuel was adequately clean.
