Default merc alternator

agreed! One thing though, the older engine may or may not have bolt
lugs in the casting to bolt the stator winding into it. If they arn't
there, then it's not going to work.

Hi,

I wanted to run an idea by anyone who has knowledge of old merc motors.
I've got a late 60's 65hp merc and a early 70's 80hp merc.
From what I gather most parts are interchangable.

The 65 doesn't have an alternator and I was wondering if I can take the
alternator from the 80 and put it on the 65 so it then charges the
battery..

What do you think?

The "alternator" in an outboard is actually a winding in the stator.
If they would swap it would work.
