Poles are for punts and people fishing in shallow water with small skiffs.
But, you don't see push poles carried on sailboats. So to say sailors should use a pole
when they don't have one is dumb. I *do* have a couple of anchors.....
Speaking of poles..... How do you sink a polish sailboat? Put it in water. :-)
