USCG Open house this Saturday, Portland Oregon
COAST GUARD TO HOST OPEN HOUSE IN PORTLAND, ORE.
PORTLAND, Ore. - Coast Guard Sector Portland, Ore., will host an open
house and a search and rescue demonstration at 6767 N. Basin Ave. in
Portland Saturday.
Sector Portland, which is located on Swan Island is a multi-mission
Coast Guard office which includes 240 active duty/reserve Coast Guard
personnel. Mission capabilities include search and rescue, domestic
and foreign vessel inspections, pollution response, marine
investigations, waterways management, and commercial vessel law
enforcement. These missions are routinely carried out every day and
positively impact hundreds of thousands of people in the Pacific
Northwest.
There will be activities for children as well as several interactive
displays illustrating the various missions conducted by the Coast Guard
and Sector Portland. An HH-60 Jay Hawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air
Station Astoria, Ore., the 110-foot patrol boat Coast Guard Cutter
Orcas from Coos Bay, Ore., the 100-foot inland buoy tender Coast Guard
Cutter Bluebell from Portland and a Marine Safety and Security K-9 Team
will participate in the event. Personnel from Sector Portland will be
on hand to speak about the above missions and answer questions from the
public.
The unit will be open to the public from 9 a.m. through 12 p.m.
The Helicopter Search and Rescue demonstration will take place at 10:30
a.m.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is free. All adults
must bring a photo ID. Media are invited to attend. For more
