I've heard plenty of horror stories about Vonage and other lowball
VOIP providers. Mainly that their voice quality sucks (even with
excellent connectivity).

Not been my experience.

Maybe people don't look at their setup features and select higher voice
quality. MAybe they are not using a VOIP router that prioritizes voice
over other data.
