I know this isn't particularly 'boat related' but I'm using
mine for saving Ship Shape TV episodes to a hard drive for later
processing into SVCD's. In fact, I'm copying an episode right
now! :^) I strongly suggest you find a video newsgroup for
better info. I got a cheapie video card to play around with a
couple years ago for some 'experimentation'. The card was
something like $20 after rebates. I didn't expect much and wasn't
disappointed when I didn't get much. For the heck of it, I tried
WinDVR software with it and I cannot empohasize what an
improvement it was! As of a year or so ago, it seemed that
Happauge (sp?) was considered higher end for this stuff. Further
research will show if this is still true. Regardless of card,
I strongly recommend WinDVR. As far as my particular card is
concerned, it does NOT have RCA inputs, but only a coax input.
Perhaps your friend would not need the RCA inputs with the proper
adapter.

As far as the editing software, I'm not too impressed with what
I've seen so far. Not to mention that you will need a REALY FAST
computer to compress the video if burning SVCD's. Should be much
problem if your friend has a DVD burner.
