To whom it may concern: I've read several message posted here on the
web, concerning Steve Irwin's death. I must say, I'm appalled by the
flippant, joking, almost gleeful fun had at the expense of Irwin, his
legacy, and his family.
I must admit that, like many here, I never much approved of the way
Irwin conducted his show. Too much showmanship, too much putting his
life at risk for the sake of ratings. But no one who has watched the
show at all, can argue that he didn't have a heart for the wildlife. He
loved animals -- _ALL_ animals, and did great things to help protect
them, preserve the species, and preserve their habitats.
I don't personally know any of the posters who got so much glee out of
Irwin's death, but I venture to guess that most of the idiots are young
computer nerds, who never see wildlife at all, except when momma takes
them to the zoo. They spend their lives at a computer keyboard. Whether
we approve of his methods or not, Steve
Irwin accomplished more, and contributed more to civilization and the
environment, every show, than these morons are likely to contribute in
their entire boring, selfish lives.
Despite the tone of many of the posts here, death is not a funny thing.
A man -- who had a wife and kids, who was beloved by legions of fans and
admirers, is dead. He died violently and painfully, and he died with
time enough to know he was dead. I fail to see the humor in that.
Tomorrow is 9/11. Gan't wait to see what you ghouls do with _THAT_!
