Default what is the closest whitewater level 5 river to New York City that you would recomend.

For commercial rafting?

For private boating?

If it's private boating, the Bottom Moose near Old Forge in the
Adirondacks State Park is unparalleld. They will be drawing down the
reservoirs and releasing into the river during several weekends in
early October. There are no companies running commerfcial trips on the
Bottom Moose, bur someone may be taking carp on the Class III-IV Lower
Moose.

Right about now (certainly Labor Day weekend, and maybe for several
more weekends) the Beaver (Croghan, NY, near Lowville) is releasing
Class III, Class IV, and Class V sections, but, again, their is
no.commercial outfitter running trips there.

The Hudson Gorge will be releasing around the same time as the Moose;
we used to drive to New York for the long Columbus Day weekend and run
the Hudson Gorge, the Bottom Moose, and the Class III-IV Black River
(in Watertown) on three consecutive chilly Autumn days.

There's also the Deerfield River in New Hampshire, but I don't know
what the release schedule is.
