Why is it your employer's responsibility to provide you with health
insurance? There was a time, not too long ago, when you paid for all of
your own medical and dental needs.
I'm 62, shi*-for brains. I've had full-time work for about 40 years. Every
employer I've ever had provided health insurance as a part of the employee
compensation package. It was always considered a part of wages, but
payable in a different form.
I am not old enough to recall a time that Bert describes, however there's a
big difference in the cost of employer provided health insurance today when
compared to that of even 20 years ago.
It was the introduction of HMO's that started the upward spiral of family
and individual premium costs.
Employer funded health insurance (total or partial) today is a major
component of an employee's compensation package and of the employer's
operating costs. 20-40 years ago it was a relatively minor cost component.
