Default Garmin handheld 76CS and non-proprietary charts: workable? if so, how?

You might want to check out http://rwsmaps.griffel.se/ This guy is
converting topos of the Caribbean into Garmin format. He has also posted
the instructions for how do it yourself. Not easy but if you have a lot of
charts to convert it might be worth the effort.

Does anyone know whether the non-fee charts now available from NOAA
and Maptech ** can used directly or adopted for use with the Garmin
handheld 76CS and, if so, how? **

You don't REALLY think Garmin is going to let you install a free chart and
not pay them $115 for an unlock code, do you? You already have the
charts,
you just don't have the CODE. Cyphered into the code is your 76CS'
electronic serial number so the code from the guy down the dock, who has
the same thing, won't work in your 76.

It's all about preventing piracy of the charts the taxpayers...YOU...have
already paid for.

The short answer is .........of course......... NO, same as always.
