Lake Murry just outside of Columbia SC. Jimmy Doolittle practiced for
the raid on mainland Japan in WWll by dropping small bombs on this
island in lake Murry. That be the famous Doolittle raid that was
launched off carriers. The island is easy to spot since it has almost no
large trees as I recall. People are not suppose to land there as it is a
posted "Purple Martin" nesting ground. When the water is low some of the
bombs are still visiable.

We left Columbia about 6 years ago. At that time they had (or were going
it, I am not sure) pull a Mitchell bomber that had ditched in the lake.
