We buy our produce at our local Heinen's store (16 stores total, all in
the
general area and locally owed) or the local farmers stands when in
season.
Heinen's purchases produce daily from the downtown food terminal and it
is
therefore much fresher than with the large chains who buy it, warehouse
it
at their main distribution points (sometimes several States away), then
eventually ship it to their stores.

Too far to drive.

Do you have a Wegman's store nearby?
www.wegmans.com

At least here, in their hometown, they offer quite a bit of produce
that's locally grown. Might be the same in the newer territories they've
conquered.

We have a year-around indoor farmer's market on Saturdays near us, plus in
season dozens of small farmers who sell their own local produce. The
nearest Wegman's is too far away for any sort of shopping. Of the
supermarket chains in our 'hood, Safeway is far better than Giant, except
for bread and bakery items. But a Panera Bread is opening soon, and that
will take care of the decent bread and bagel challenge.

I was asking John. Are you close enough to him that the question applies?
