None of this matters, Joe. I just came back from my yard. It's a Onan E
series diesel genset. I really feel it's too big and heavy, so I'm
looking at possibly selling it off on ebay to pay for something more
suited for my boat.

No genset is suited for your boat (sorry) but that's just one of the
reasons it's a day sailor and not a cruising vessel.

You can get a shaft PTO driven genset that will work, but you will
have to run your main all the time. Onan is pretty compact and any
diesel genset worth a damn is going to be 300+ pounds. Your main
problem is space no weight so much, you can not go air cooled so you
have to use a marine unit. Do you know of any other 35s5 with a genset?
What do they use?


It weighs over 350 lbs and that's without the power
vented cover and fuel assembly.

I would get hatch top AC's and only use them at the dock. Toss them in
the dock box while sailing. Your boat is a day sailor bob, the AC's
and comforts of home are still quite a few steps away on your stepping
stone path of boat ownership.

During the hot weather sail at night. You might learn to enjoy it.
Perhaps some hatch wind scoups would help..It's not that hot in NYC.
